Margriet is a multilingual, multifaceted creator, entrepreneur, artist, yogi, mother, and surfer currently residing out of Costa Rica.
Before opening Zwart Cafe in Santa Teresa, Margriet graduated with distinction from fine art schools in both Toronto and Vancouver, worked in the airlines and traveled the world feverishly.
Her paintings are filled with unapologetic colour, youth, humour, chaos and the playful fun we sometimes forget as grown ups.
Zwart Cafe is a mirror for Margriet’s adaptability and speaks mounds for her existence as a unrestricted dreamer serving also as a restaurant, gallery, book exchange and art studio. It’s 100 metres from the beach, and you’ll find surfboards stored in the bathroom for self care breaks.
Margriet left the big city life in Toronto 11 years ago to chase waves and live in a beach bubble.. she’s found it.
