Martine Coppens
Martine Coppens (1956 – present) is a Belgian painter, drawer and etcher of cats. She has been observing them with love and fascination from her earliest childhood. Martine does not make merely portraits of cats, she tells a story as well. The cats she portrays are mixing human and feline expressions in a unique and seemingly natural way. Humor, creaky smiles and cat issues are the themes of her original, unusual paintings. She also winks to her public by portraying herself in hidden corners of her work, in the reflection of a glass, sneaking behind a door or under-cover in the crowd.
Martine Coppens is a permanent exhibitor at the Lorelei Gallery in Brussels, Belgium. Her works are held in private collections in Europe, the USA, Canada, Russia and many other countries. She is a regular participant in several galleries in Paris, France. She was also regulary invited to show her work at “Comparaisons” in the Grand Palais, Paris, France.
