Surtex 2015

Jun 01, 2015

Wow! What a show!

After lots of meetings, art reviews and laughs the sales team made its way back to Vermont and it has been a whirlwind of follow up e-mails, phone calls and even snail mail packages ever since! During the show, our booth was full of existing (and potential) customers all 3 days of the show.

This year, Art Licensing had a large booth (#204-208) displaying LOTS of beautiful art. We had 18 panels categorized by subject displaying all types of trend right themes (like abstract and lodge) as well as the ever-popular topics (like dogs/cats and wildlife).  You can see a virtual tour of our booth on our Facebook page.

Artists from all walks of life come to Surtex to show and market their new collections to manufacturers various products including, but not limited to: stationery, giftware, toys, publishing, and much more. Each year, thousands of people travel to the Javits Center for Surtex and the shows that run with it (the National Stationery Show and the International Contemporary Furniture Fair). Surtex is a great place for artists and agents to display artwork to existing clients as well as to meet and start relationships with new potential manufacturers. This show gives us the opportunity to build extraordinary relationships, friendships and memories!

ALI visits Leanin' Tree

Apr 23, 2015

The ALI sales team recently traveled 1,875 miles away from home to visit one of our customers, Leanin’ Tree, out of Boulder, Colorado.

We had a great visit and we reviewed lots of fantastic new images with their team.

Before the meeting, our team was lucky enough to be able to visit Leanin’ Tree’s Museum of Western Art as well as their Sculpture Garden.

The Leanin’ Tree factory/museum/garden has become a must see attraction for tourists in the Denver-Boulder area as it is one of the nation’s largest privately owned collections of western art. The Museum consists of works from the private art collection of Ed Trumble, Founder and Chairman of Leanin’ Tree.  He is generous enough to share his art with the public by hanging the originals in the Leanin’ Tree Museum. Visitors can tour the Museum and sculpture garden for free! Ed has been working on his collection of over 250 paintings and 150 sculptures for seven decades. The sculpture garden is a landscaped garden that is located outside the Museum. There are numerous amazing sculptures and even some fun “photo ops” for people of all ages.

After we toured the museum and garden, we met some of the Leanin’ Tree team members and then we got to tour the factory! One of the first things we saw on the factory tour was a large giclee of one of our images by Richard Burns. This image has been a popular card for Leanin’ Tree for many years!

After we got done “ooh-ing and aw-ing” over our image, we got to watch sheets of blank paper as they are transformed into full-color cards! We also got to see how envelopes, mugs, and magnets were made! You can also see the production process by taking a virtual tour: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SfM_KtSPDs

Leanin’ Tree is committed to supporting local business and keeping a sustainable factory. All of their cards are created, produced and shipped from their facility in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. They made the decision to keep these jobs at home, rather than outsourcing to different countries. Not only does it give back to their community, but it also allows them to ensure they produce the highest quality product around.

After the factory tour, we met with the Leanin’ Tree team and showed LOTS and LOTS of new images. They were so excited to be able to see so much wonderful art from us. Keep your eyes open on the Leanin’ Tree website to see new Art Licensing images!

Julie Bell was featured in SouthWest Magazine!

Mar 24, 2015

Our artist, Julie Bell ,was recently featured in the March 2015 edition of the South West Art Magazine! She was one of the ten artists in the “Meet 10 artists who depict creatures of all kinds” section of the magazine. Julie’s images were perfect for this article because she paints a variety of animals.

Throughout her life, Bell says, she has felt a special connection to animals and nature. She says:

“When I’m painting animals with all their beauty and wild nature, I experience the kind of at-one-with-the-universe feeling described by people who meditate. It’s both soothing and exciting, the way nature itself is. I know without a doubt that this is what I was meant to do”

Julie started her career working as a well-known illustrator for Marvel Comics. In fact, she was the first woman to paint the character of Conan! Julie continues to create fantasy, science fiction and animal paintings. For more information about Julie’s images, you can view her entire licensing portfolio and contact us

ALI and The Mountain Team Up!

Mar 16, 2015

We are so excited to tell you about one of our many licensing projects with Brooklyn, NY based artist: Dean Russo! Art Licensing International has teamed up with The Mountain (out of Keene, NH) to develop a Dean Russo Line of T-Shirt (and some other apparel items like hats and socks). The Mountain has created a very clever propriety T-shirt hang box that uniquely displays Dean's artwork that is featured on their silk screen shirts (example attached). This line has been a tremendous seller for The Mountain.

Art and animals (particularly rescue dogs and cats) are two passions that define Dean. He uses vibrant Pop Art colors and bold abstract patterns to give a voice to his favorite subject: animals. Dean Russo’s fun and colorful images apply to people of all ages and demographics.

People love his pet images as well his celebrities, travel monuments, and wild life images. Not only do his images work for the T-shirt program, but they are also placed with numerous manufacturers for wall décor, mugs, puzzles, coasters, magnets and many more products!

Toy Fair 2015

Feb 18, 2015

This year was the 112th annual North American International Toy Fair. It is the largest toy and youth product marketplace in the Western Hemisphere, with more than 1,000 exhibiting manufacturers, distributors, importers and sales agents that showcase 150,000+ products to nearly 10,000 buyers representing 7,000+ unique retail outlets in 100 countries! We went to the show on Saturday (the first day) and it was already packed!

There is so much to see at the Toy Fair and everywhere you look you see fun stuff! It is a challenge to stay on task and not let your inner child come out to play! We saw a little bit of everything; from stuffed animals (like grumpy cat or a life size Chewbacca), to toy bow and arrows, to boomerangs, to costumes, to airbrush paint sets and pretty much everything in between. We were there for 1 toy only- PUZZLES! We have many artists placed with the various puzzle manufactures at the show and we are always looking for new customers to work with as well as new licensing opportunities for our artists. We had a very successful show. We came home with wish lists from our customers, to do lists for our artists, and follow up lists for the sales team.

Here are some photos of the puzzles that we saw at the show.

2015 Atlanta Gift Show

Jan 15, 2015

During a “quick trip” to Atlanta, some of our Sales team managed to get in 28,600 steps (approximately 12 miles) in just 2.5 days!  With more than seven million square feet of enclosed space, the Atlanta Gift show ranks first as the world’s largest trade mart/trade show facility. It is the nation’s leading gift, home furnishings, apparel, and area rug marketplace. At the Atlanta Gift Show, you will find more product than anywhere else! With the latest designs on every floor of every building, it helped us to learn what kind of art manufacturers & retailers are looking for.

We (Courtney and Syrena) did not waste any time and tried to fit in as much of the show as possible! We had back-to-back (to back) appointments with many eager customers. With over 400 artists to present, we could meet for hours!  Courtney and I made sure to set aside some time to “walk the show.” Walking the show can be draining and it is incredibly easy to get distracted (and overwhelmed) because there are floor to ceiling glass windows of the showrooms, which allows you to see a remarkable amount of products as you walk down hallway after hallway. Plus, you never know who you will see (or run into) at the show. This year we got to meet Paula Deen! It was a lot of fun and she was incredibly kind.

(Syrena and Courtney with Paula Deen)

One of our favorite parts about our meetings/walking the show is seeing our images on finished products.  Here are some pictures of the products we saw at the show.

(Coasters by Color Bakery)

(Anderson Design Group Pillows)

(Art Licensing Studio Tabletop)

(Celebrate Life Gallery Wooden Wall Decor)

To see the entire album, take a look at our Atlanta Gift Show 2015 album on Facebook.

Our meetings went really great and as a result we have been busy little bees sending follow up e-mails with the art selections (as well as BRAND NEW art that has arrived). We hope the meetings turn into lots of successful new programs!

Why buy a knock off when you can get the real deal?

Nov 13, 2014

We have some extremely exciting news pertaining to Art Licensing's award winning artist, Dean Russo! To date we have placed over 100 licenses in a multitude of product categories. We have been working diligently to "Brand" Dean Russo in multiple market places. Consequently we are getting inundated with retail customers inquiring if Dean's work, as they are seeing it in the market place ( both online and in retail stores), is in fact his unique brand.

We have asked our customers to "Brand" his name on their websites well as somewhere on the product. We believe this this will help to avoid further confusion in the marketplace. Our Dean Russo followers will gain confidence becuase they know they will be buying only authorized products.

If you are interested in purchasing Dean Russo authorized products, you can do so by clicking the links below. His images/products are in MANY other marketplaces and venues, so be sure to check the product for his signature/copyright line so you know you are getting an authentic Dean Russo (not a knock off)!

The 2014 PhotoPlus International Conference and Expo

Nov 04, 2014

On Halloween, most of the ALI family was in VT eating yummy treats and hanging out with our trick-or-treaters (in between doing deals, of course). Joe, from our art department, spent Halloween in NYC for the PhotoPlus International Conference + Expo. This year, his treats came in the form of photography knowledge.

The PhotoPlus Conference + Expo was the perfect show for Joe to attend, as he is our resident photographer and imaging specialist. This show has become the largest photography and imaging show in North America! Over 22,000 professional photographers and enthusiasts from around the world attend this event. Attendees could choose from over 80 seminars, offering the ultimate experience in photography, filmmaking and digital imaging. Joe saw a lot of inspiring photography, filmmaking and imaging products- from image capture and color management to retouching and storage. There were even little theaters at the show that offered free 30 minute educational seminars all three days.

Joe came home with a ton of new information about photography. He is excited because he will be able to pass this knowledge onto our artists. To see photos from his journey, take a look at the PhotoPlus album on our facebook.

We are SO excited to announce that our artist, Susan Brabeau, received “Best of Show” (first place) at the North Carolina State Fair as a professional artist  again. She has won “Best of Show” every year since 2009! This year, her first place award at the State Fair was for her painting, “Hydrangeas.”  This is her newest piece and it will be hung on display at Logan's Trading Post in Raleigh, NC. The score card for judging the competition included quality of concept, design, creativity, and innovations.

This is the breakdown the judges used to judge each competitor:

I. Impact: effect on viewer, catches the eye and holds attention, mood and story telling techniques

II. Composition: arrangement, completeness and balance of picture elements

III. Technical Quality: sharpness, clarity, etc.

IV. Workmanship: prepared and mounted neatly and securely to meet requirement

In addition to winning awards at the state fair, Susan has also received local first-place awards in the Raleigh/Durham area in North Carolina. In 2013, she was a finalist in the “Artist's Magazine's” annual art competition with one of her still life pieces: “The Book box” which is inspired by Raleigh's historical landmarks, the beloved first train station. She also has several pieces in the permanent collection of the city of Raleigh and also at the Disney Studios.
