Southern Delights- a new collection by Anderson Designs!

Aug 08, 2013

There has been a lot of interest in Southern culture lately—everything from food to music to lifestyle. Several Southern cities have been designated as top U.S. cities to live in this year (music city is at the top of that list)! Since The Anderson Design Group firm is located in Nashville, Tennessee, coming up with lots of great material came naturally to them! The result is a new line of art that Southerners love because it reflects who they are. People from other places fall in love with the simplicity, comfort, nostalgia and whimsical qualities associated with southern lifestyle reflected in this series.

The Anderson Design Group has also added over a dozen NEW National Parks designs to their Art & Soul of America series. They plan to create several more park designs over the next few months, and they are open to requests from folks who have a favorite outdoor destination that they would like to see depicted in their classic style.

The Anderson Design Group  is currently working on a new series of designs for men! Often, we have customers tell us that they are having trouble buying a gift for Dad, a husband, brother or friend who is a dude. Anderson Design understands that guys like to decorate with art, but they LOVE art that doesn’t look like it was picked out by a girl! Men crave art that celebrates the things they care about,  so this manly new line of images will focus on sports, dogs, beer, cars, planes, trains, fishing, hunting, outdoor adventure, man caves, etc. This new line of designs should be ready to unveil in November or December so keep checking our website to see if the images have arrived!

The Evolution of a Painting

Jul 31, 2013

When people are purchasing items in the marketplace, they are looking at the finished goods. They will admire the art on the product, but never stop to think about where the art came from.  Licensing art is such a fascinating industry because we ALWAYS think about where the art came from.  It is our job to help the artists make images that will work for each manufacturer and eventually become a finished good!

We thought you might be interested in seeing how one of our painters, Karen Middleton, will transform her idea into a finished good!

Step 1: The artist comes up with an idea for a new piece.

Step 2: Rough Sketch.

You can see that Karen has sent a rough sketch of "firemen pets" (dogs and cats) to show the general idea of what she would like to paint. The agents provided her with feedback of ways to make the image more marketable.

Step 3: Revised Rough Sketch

You can see that Karen made the requested revisions. Then the agent gave the “thumbs up” to begin her color sketch.

Step 4: Review Color Sketch

The ALI team suggested a few more "tweaks" and then she will be "OK" to begin painting this image.

Stay tuned to see the final product!

If you are one of our artists and would like assistance with your creative process, contact the art director, Zoe Anderson. If you are not signed with us, but would like a portfolio review, click here to learn more!

Portfolio review service for new artists!

Jul 18, 2013

In order to be a successful licensed artist it is essential to have a complete understanding of how your art can fit into the commercial art world. Since many artists are not familiar with the ever-changing licensing world, we now offer a fabulous service to artists: a portfolio review!

With an art critique, you will receive an unbiased interpretation of how the market place will view your artwork. Our knowledgeable team will review your portfolio and provide you with a detailed critique of your artwork including its relevance to the current market place, allowing you to find your niche.

Despite the negative connotations with the word "criticism," our goal is to help you grow as an artist. We answer the question “what do they see,” rather than answering the question of “what do you see?” Allow our team of experts to help you understand what potential buyers may or may not be looking for.

To request a Portfolio Review, please send a check or money order (made out to Art Licensing) for $39.95 to the Artist Critique Committee. You can also make a credit card payment over the phone. Please allow a two-week lead-time for this review to be completed.

We are home from fabulous Las Vegas!

Jun 28, 2013

For over 30 years, the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas has been the meeting place for the biggest names in the industry and this year was no different than the rest! The Art Licensing Team is super excited to report that this show was a success for us again this year. We were very busy all three days- meeting with our artists, current customers, and some new faces.

Throughout all of our meetings, we received positive feedback about the artwork our artists have worked very hard to produce for us. Our visitors enjoyed the large selection of artwork we provided. We tried to update our facebook page from the show so our fans could see pictures each day! Take a look so you can see all of the pictures we shared! We were very excited that some of our west coast artists could make it to the show. Dennis Lewan was kind enough to bring his latest original painting for us to display at the show! We also had the pleasure to spend time wtih Apollo and Fiona Stokes-Gilbert! We loved getting to see the people behind the amazing pieces of art- espeically so we could give them our latest "wish lists" in person!

We are glad to be back in the office because we came home with a large “To-Do” list of contract requests as well as new art requests!

Jun 26, 2013

All of you animal lovers will be excited to know that you can now purchase Ken Bailey's art on pillows! They are a perfect accent to your favorite room or a wonderful gift for your favorite fellow animal lover!

Ken Bailey’s art appeals to people who appreciate the graphic form and historical connotation, but also attracts animal lovers who share an emotional connection with his pieces.  His goal is not to paint a representational portrait, but to portray a deeper emotional connection that makes people laugh- reminding them of a loved friend.

Surtex . . . What a Success!

May 28, 2013

Surtex 2013 was a great show for us (and our artists)! We were very busy everyday- meeting with our artists, clients, and some new faces who all seemed really excited to work with our group!

We got positive feedback about the artwork our artists have worked very hard to produce. A show like Surtex can be a visual overload, so we familiarize ourselves with our prolific archive so clients can see exactly what they are looking for. We have found many of our clients are excited to work with us because we have such a large selection of artwork and we can guarantee the quality of work produced by our artists.

We have come back with a laundry list of contract requests, new art requests, and general feedback about our art. A lot of the insight we received from our customers is similar to that of the Atlanta Gift show that took place in January. People were requesting patterns like chevrons, ikats, and geometric shapes. We also had some new requests for more motivational quotes with fun colors and backgrounds and many requests for imagery with bright, bold, primary colors.

Next up, the International Licensing Expo in Las Vegas!  June 18, 19 and 20.  See you there!
