Jan Benz has been drawing the animals around her since she was a teenager. She has been an active painter since 1980 when she completed the Famous Artist Fine Art Course. She has a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Arizona and has completed adult education classes in drawing and painting.
Benz creates traditional realistic works of art in watercolor, which combine her appreciation of beauty with her love of animals. Recently she has been concentrating on portraits of the domestic cat, portraying their innate mystery and beauty in a still life or outdoor setting incorporating flowers, laces, antiques, and other beautiful objects. Benz strives to capture the unique personality and character of each cat she portrays.
Benz participates and exhibits in regional and juried competitions and shows and has won numerous awards. In addition to her originals she produces Limited Edition prints and note cards. She also teaches a workshop through the Arts Council of Wyoming County at the Hoag Memorial Gallery in Silver Lake, NY. Benz currently resides on a farm in Western New York with her husband, collie, several cats, and abundant wildlife.
