Charlsie Kelly is featured in Basement Magazine!

Nov 12, 2015

Internationally known artist Charlsie Kelly finds inspiration everywhere, and her methods and mediums reflect the diversity of places in which she paints.  The common thread in Charlsie's work is whimsy: from play-on-word idiomatic expressions in watercolor, faux mosaics to trick the eye, and larger than life murals set against an ocean backdrop, Charlsie exhibits a sense of playfulness in everything that she does.

Primarily painting vibrant watercolors, Charlsie also works in acrylic, traveling the world painting murals in hotels and private residences as well. Her colorful images have earned her a 6 page spread in this month’s Basement Magazine artist showcase. The feature includes beautiful shots of her work as well as an interview.

Art Licensing Art Department: Behind The Scenes

Nov 03, 2015

Art Licensing is known for representing amazing artists and supplying our customers with high quality images. What many people do not know is all of the behind the scenes work it takes to make these hi-res files. Many of our artists rely on us to make digital files of their masterpieces.

We are fortunate enough to have an incredibly talented art department. We can take transparencies or slides and scan them to create digital files. After the scan is complete, our imaging specialists correct the color on the digital file to match the original image.

We also have artists that send us their original paintings (made with various mediums) to our art department to be shot. We have a fantastic Hasselblad camera. This camera can make a very large hi-res file.  This works perfectly for our customers who create large products (like puzzles, flags or wall murals). Like the scans, the photos are also color corrected in house.

Once our art department has made the hi-res files, they repackage the painting (or transparencies/slides) and return it to the artist. We hold the upmost respect for our paintings and treat them with care (like everything we receive from an artist is a Van Gough)! We have been commended by our artists for treating their work with such integrity; here is a testimony from Chuck Black: “I've been dealing with shipping artwork through the mail for over 10 years and I must say that this is the first time that I had one shipped to me exactly how I would like it to be. It was re-packaged precisely how I had packaged it originally and I was very impressed when I opened it! Thank you very much for taking the time to care for my painting properly!!!”

When an artist works with Art Licensing, they get an entire team of people working for them! Who would ever guess how much work it takes to make a painting into a licensed product! If you are interested in working with us, Contact us!

Vizart pays tribute to Veterans!

Sep 23, 2015

Earlier this year, a Vietnam veteran by the name of Marshall "Tommy" Head approached our artist, Vizart. Marshall Tommy Head flew the F-105 supersonic fighter-bombe and is now part of an organization called, The Old Bold Pilots. He loved Vizart Ink's work and asked if they could use "Flight of the Fighter" artwork for a plaque. Vizart Ink happily agreed to this request.

On October 3, 2015 the plaque will be presented by U.S. Admiral Richard Lyon and donated to the museum by The Old Bold Pilots “Flight of the Fighter.” It will be hung at the Arlington National Cemetery Tomb of the Unknowns. The plaque with his image on it will read: "To the soldiers that lie here, who represent all those lost forever, to your sacrificed precious futures so that we could enjoy the full measure of freedom, peace and prosperity, we will never forget our debt to you"- Your fellow brothers-in-arms The Old Bold Pilots Oceanside, CA 2015.

Road Trip to Carson Industries

Aug 18, 2015

Last week, Syrena (from our sales team) hopped in the car and took a road trip to Carson Industries. She filled the Jetta with gas, grabbed a coffee (with an extra shot of espresso), turned the music up and she was off! After 9 hours of driving through the beautiful state of New York, she was finally in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She got some dinner and went to bed early because she knew the next day she would be full of meetings with the friendly team at Carson!

Carson manufactures exclusive gift and inspirational merchandise, as well as garden decor including wind chimes, outdoor decorative flags, novelty items, fashion accessories and apparel. Carson comes out with 6 new catalogs each year (gift, garden, flags, accessories, seasonal, and holiday flags). We are honored to have our artist, Jeff Hoff, featured on the cover of this year’s Flag catalog! His lovely paintings make the perfect flags for every season. You can also find flags with art from Crista Forest, Macneil Studio, and some of our other artists.

Syrena came to the meetings prepared with 2 iPads full of amazing new art from our artists. The meetings went really well and we got lots of great feedback. We are hoping to see lots of new images in their catalog next year! She also got to take a tour of their facility and got to see how some of their metal garden products come to life. After a whirlwind of meetings and a yummy lunch, it was time to hop back in the car and head home. For more information about licensing our images, contact us today!

Rod Stevens is featured in Where Women Create

Aug 05, 2015

Our artist, Roderick Stevens, was recently featured in the quarterly magazine: “Where Women Create.” This publication brings you into the creative spaces of extraordinary women throughout the country. This magazine is meant to motivate and inspire women, but each quarter they feature 1 man in the “Men who make it” section.

Roderick Stevens is an award-winning painter in multiple styles and mediums. He is a creative soul as he also dabbles in filmmaking and is an award-winning screenwriter! He has been a lover of the arts for as long as he can remember and he started painting in oils when he was just 7 years old! As adulthood and family responsibilities started to consume his life, the variety of artistic expression became relegated to occasional hobbies while he focused on filmmaking. In 2004 he started painting again! Roderick currently lives in Arizona, in a highly energy-efficient home with a 400-square-foot loft studio overlooking the living area. This allows him to balance his work and family life.

You can learn more about Roderick if you read the article featured in Where Women Create this quarter.

ALI visits Leanin' Tree

Apr 23, 2015

The ALI sales team recently traveled 1,875 miles away from home to visit one of our customers, Leanin’ Tree, out of Boulder, Colorado.

We had a great visit and we reviewed lots of fantastic new images with their team.

Before the meeting, our team was lucky enough to be able to visit Leanin’ Tree’s Museum of Western Art as well as their Sculpture Garden.

The Leanin’ Tree factory/museum/garden has become a must see attraction for tourists in the Denver-Boulder area as it is one of the nation’s largest privately owned collections of western art. The Museum consists of works from the private art collection of Ed Trumble, Founder and Chairman of Leanin’ Tree.  He is generous enough to share his art with the public by hanging the originals in the Leanin’ Tree Museum. Visitors can tour the Museum and sculpture garden for free! Ed has been working on his collection of over 250 paintings and 150 sculptures for seven decades. The sculpture garden is a landscaped garden that is located outside the Museum. There are numerous amazing sculptures and even some fun “photo ops” for people of all ages.

After we toured the museum and garden, we met some of the Leanin’ Tree team members and then we got to tour the factory! One of the first things we saw on the factory tour was a large giclee of one of our images by Richard Burns. This image has been a popular card for Leanin’ Tree for many years!

After we got done “ooh-ing and aw-ing” over our image, we got to watch sheets of blank paper as they are transformed into full-color cards! We also got to see how envelopes, mugs, and magnets were made! You can also see the production process by taking a virtual tour: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SfM_KtSPDs

Leanin’ Tree is committed to supporting local business and keeping a sustainable factory. All of their cards are created, produced and shipped from their facility in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. They made the decision to keep these jobs at home, rather than outsourcing to different countries. Not only does it give back to their community, but it also allows them to ensure they produce the highest quality product around.

After the factory tour, we met with the Leanin’ Tree team and showed LOTS and LOTS of new images. They were so excited to be able to see so much wonderful art from us. Keep your eyes open on the Leanin’ Tree website to see new Art Licensing images!

Julie Bell was featured in SouthWest Magazine!

Mar 24, 2015

Our artist, Julie Bell ,was recently featured in the March 2015 edition of the South West Art Magazine! She was one of the ten artists in the “Meet 10 artists who depict creatures of all kinds” section of the magazine. Julie’s images were perfect for this article because she paints a variety of animals.

Throughout her life, Bell says, she has felt a special connection to animals and nature. She says:

“When I’m painting animals with all their beauty and wild nature, I experience the kind of at-one-with-the-universe feeling described by people who meditate. It’s both soothing and exciting, the way nature itself is. I know without a doubt that this is what I was meant to do”

Julie started her career working as a well-known illustrator for Marvel Comics. In fact, she was the first woman to paint the character of Conan! Julie continues to create fantasy, science fiction and animal paintings. For more information about Julie’s images, you can view her entire licensing portfolio and contact us
